“Love thy neighbor; yet don’t pull down your hedge” – George Herbert

There’s many meaning to this phrase. Just Google it. How I interpret the phrase: be nice to your neighbor, however protect your privacy and territory at the same time.

I think there is a very basic animal instinct in all of us. For example, protect our love ones, like how a lioness protects her cubs. Protect our territory, like how the lion protects his territory from other males lions or intruders. What make us different from animals is the ability to think and make proper judgment. However sometimes this animal instinct takes over.

My neighbor (on the right) is a real @$$hole. That is the only word that describes him best. He has the audacity to throw his palm leaves on the side of my house, my TERRITORY. Being a human, I politely place the leaves back on his side, to gently persuade him to dispose them accordingly. However the next day I find the leaves at my territory. This back and forth, went on for the next 5 days.

Today, my animal instinct took over. While the @$$ was standing outside of his house, I boldly took the leaves and place it back as his side, right in front of his crooked nose. Below is what transpired next:

@$$: <Angry Voice> Why are you throwing your rubbish in front of my house?

Me: <Angry Voice> My rubbish?! This is YOUR palm leaves from YOUR tree!! (pointing to his palm tree. I don’t have any palm tree in my house and so does any of our neighbors)

Me: Can’t you throw the palm leaves correctly? Like in the garbage bin? Why must you throw it at my place?

@$$: OK!!! OK!!! I will throw it. (He than throws the palm leaves into the drain, right in front of my house)

Me: C’Mon, how can you throw rubbish into the drain and in front of people house? (I took the palm leaves and place it beside his garbage bin)

Me: Uncle, you are so old, why are you setting such a bad example for the young ones? How can you throw rubbish in front of people’s house?

That’s when he left the “battle ground” and back into his hole. I left and went inside as well. After 10 minutes I notice that he was standing outside. I decided to be nice and try to resolve this issue as humanly as possible.

Me: Uncle, I want to talk to you nicely about…..

Even before I could finish,

@$$: I don’t want to talk to you.

Period.

He then left the “battle ground” once again.

I am not going to play “Mr. Nice” guy anymore. Honestly why can’t he just package his palm leaves into a plastic bag and just throw it into the garbage bin? Why? I guess some people are just plain @$$holes.

You are probably wondering what I will do, if I find the palm leaves again. Well, I don’t have an answer.

I am wondering what to do as well….
